Job summary

AECOM invites Industrial Placement students to gain hands-on experience in tunnelling and underground structures within our London-based team, working on real projects across the UK, including Croydon. The role offers exposure to major infrastructure programs and a supportive development framework.

You will assist tunnel, shaft and cavern designs, support feasibility studies, review technical data, and participate in site visits under the supervision of engineers, developing practical skills for

Qualifications

Pursuing Civil or Civil & Structural Engineering with a strong interest in tunnelling.
Exposure to engineering environments via placement, shadowing, or coursework is desirable.
Interest in software-based engineering and design (CAD, 3D modelling, finite element software).
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are essential.

Responsibilities

Assist tunnel, shaft, and cavern designs using various construction methods.
Support feasibility studies and detailed design tasks focusing on safe, constructible solutions.
Review and analyse technical data to support engineering decisions.
Contribute to problem-solving and develop design solutions under supervision.
Participate in site visits to observe construction methods and gather project information.
Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
