Job summary

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Staff Nurse for the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit. This fixed-term role covers maternity leave to September 2027 and involves delivering patient-focused care to trauma patients while leading nursing and support staff in the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse absence.

The post collaborates with ortho-geriatricians and broader trauma teams, with responsibilities across complex spine, head, and polytrauma cases, on a busy ward.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with current NMC registration.
• Post-registration trauma orthopaedic experience preferred.
• Experience in NHS settings.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient-focused programmes of care for complex and changing health and wellbeing needs.
• Care for trauma, spinal injury, head injury and polytrauma patients.
• Run the ward or department in the absence of the Ward Sister or Charge Nurse.
• Provide clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff.
• Work with ortho-geriatricians, medical and surgical teams across the trauma pathway.
