Job summary

Protocol Education is recruiting a Behaviour & Emotional Wellbeing Mentor for a specialist SEMH school in Epping to start immediately. You will support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, help manage challenging behaviours, and promote positive choices within a trauma‑informed framework.

The role emphasizes building strong relationships, consistency, and calmness under pressure while collaborating closely with classroom and wider school teams to re-engage students in learning.

Qualifications

• Experience with SEMH pupils, SEND, youth work, care or mentoring backgrounds.
• Patience, resilience and confidence in managing challenging situations.
• Understanding of boundaries and relationship-building.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to individual needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups across lessons and activities.
• Assist with behaviour management and de‑escalation when needed.
• Promote positive choices and role model constructive behaviour.
• Collaborate with school staff to support student re-engagement.
• Monitor pupil progress and reinforce trauma‑informed approaches.
