Job summary

Protocol Education Limited is recruiting a Mental Health Support Worker to join a secondary school in Waltham Forest, East London. You will provide daily pastoral support to students with complex mental health needs and work with safeguarding and external professionals to ensure appropriate interventions.

The role focuses on resilience, wellbeing, and educational engagement. Applicants should have experience with young people facing mental health challenges, self-harm risk, and safeguarding

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting young people with severe mental health needs.
• Experience with individuals at risk of self-harm and/or suicidal ideation.
• Strong safeguarding procedures & risk management knowledge.
• Experience in education, mental health services, CAMHS, youth work, residential care, social care, or specialist provisions.
• Ability to stay calm, professional and resilient in challenging situations.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Commitment to welfare and wellbeing of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily pastoral and emotional support to students with complex mental health needs.
• Build trusting relationships with vulnerable students to promote resilience and engagement with education.
• Support students presenting with self-harming behaviours and coordinate with safeguarding and CAMHS.
• Conduct risk assessments, behaviour support plans, and wellbeing strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers, families, social workers, CAMHS and external agencies.
• Support students during emotional crises using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
• Maintain accurate records and safeguarding documentation.
• Promote positive mental health awareness across the school community.
