Job summary

You Matter is recruiting a Support Worker to help establish a new service in Wigan, providing unconditional support to residents facing homelessness and addiction. You will work with a leadership team to plan, deliver and improve services, building trust and ensuring a safe environment for positive change.

The role focuses on risk assessment, safeguarding, housing support, and collaboration with partner organisations. Training and development opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Experience in charity/community projects or homelessness sector preferred.
• Knowledge of welfare benefits and housing law.
• Excellent communication with confidentiality.
• Empathy while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Commitment to flexible, solutions-focused approach.
• Strong time management and prioritisation.
• IT literacy with MS Office/Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Welcome residents and carry out risk assessments.
• Ensure basic needs: accommodation, food, guidance.
• Promote safeguarding of adults/children at risk.
• Advocate for social inclusion and access to health/financial support.
• Ensure Housing Benefit and service charges are managed.
• Develop and review support plans reflecting residents' needs.
• Address health issues with primary/secondary care teams.
• Respond to crisis and provide timely support.
• Attend team meetings and reflect on practice.
• Maintain SHREK values and foster inclusive culture.
