Job summary

Compass Community Schools is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work within our SEMH-focused school. You will support teachers, lead small-group or 1:1 sessions, and help create a nurturing, trauma-informed learning environment for children with diverse needs.

The role requires resilience, consistency, and flexible communication to engage children with complex behaviours while safeguarding their welfare and promoting inclusive education.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) is desirable.
• Ability to work with complex and challenging behaviours in a trauma-informed setting.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in the classroom and deliver sessions with small groups.
• Assist with managing classroom resources and supervising activities.
• Support safeguarding and welfare procedures in line with school policy.
