Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll work in a part of Telent dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our clients include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the system engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical elements of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables

• Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
• Potentially lead the creation of new product or service ideas and develop plans for new designs.
• Manage ideas from initial design through to production or installation.
• Develop detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
• Apply mathematical and scientific skills to develop practical solutions.
• Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
• Forecast accurate cost analyses for projects.
• Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
• Ensure quality control and oversee construction, manufacturing, development, and deployment of new products/systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of your engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
• Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
• Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Continuously develop personal engineering skills.
• Solve complex problems and approach solutions from new perspectives.
• Work independently with minimal guidance.
• Lead projects or project phases, or hold accountability for ongoing activities or objectives.
• Mentor less experienced colleagues.
• Comply with all QEHS requirements related to the role.

Skill Requirements

• Previous technical experience in SISS, engineering, design, and survey skills.
• Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline or sector.
• Proficient with MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
• Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD software.
• Ability to collaborate effectively.
• Customer-focused, with strong stakeholder management skills.
• Passionate about problem-solving and providing workable solutions.
• Strong analytical and reasoning skills, with the ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
