Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the systems engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will undertake all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables
  • Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
  • May lead in creating ideas for new products or services and drawing up plans for new designs.
  • Manage ideas from initial design through to production and installation.
  • Draw up detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
  • Use mathematical and scientific skills to develop workable solutions.
  • Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
  • Calculate accurate cost analysis forecasts for projects.
  • Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure quality-control tests and oversee construction, development, and deployment.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of own engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop personal engineering skills.
  • Solve complex problems with innovative perspectives.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Lead projects or project steps as needed.
  • Mentor colleagues with less experience.
  • Comply with QEHS requirements.
Skill Requirements
  • Previous technical SISS experience, engineering, design, and survey skills.
  • Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Customer-focused with stakeholder management skills.
  • Problem-solving passion and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
