Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a proactive Transport Manager (CPC) to lead the Street Scene Fleet Management team. The role focuses on ensuring fleet operations meet safety, legal and corporate standards while acting as the key interface between drivers and the fleet department.

You will monitor compliance, coordinate vehicle availability, and drive cost-effective services that keep Birmingham moving. A CPC qualification and a clean driving license are essential.

Qualifications

• Hold a CPC qualification for transport management.
• Have a full, clean driving license.
• Demonstrate significant experience in transport management.
• Experience working with operational drivers and fleet departments.
• Excellent communication skills with drivers and workshop staff.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Ensure transport operations comply with legal, safety and company standards.
• Monitor tachograph and driving license compliance.
• Manage vehicle availability and coordinate maintenance.
• Provide guidance and training on compliance and best practices.
• Act as SME for transport regulations and best practices.
• Ensure adequate vehicles are available daily to meet needs.
• Work with fleet dept and workshop on vehicle allocation.
• Coordinate with maintenance providers for servicing and repairs.
• Track maintenance schedules and roadworthiness.
• Maintain records of defects, schedules and compliance docs.
