Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a proactive Transport Manager (CPC) to join our Street Scene Fleet Management team. This role sits at the heart of our operations, acting as the key interface between drivers and the fleet department to keep Birmingham moving and ensure records are accurate.

You will support operational analysis and help deliver cost-effective services while providing guidance on transport regulations and best practices.

Qualifications

• Holder of a CPC for transport management.
• Full, clean driving license.
• Significant experience in transport management, ideally in waste collection.
• Experience working with operational drivers and fleet departments.
• Excellent communication skills with drivers and workshop staff.

Responsibilities

• Ensure transport-related operations comply with legal, safety and company standards.
• Monitor tachograph regulations and driving license requirements for drivers.
• Manage compliance processes, oversee vehicle availability, and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
• Provide guidance and training to drivers on compliance and best practices.
• Act as SME for management and drivers needing transport guidance on regulations and best practices.
• Ensure adequate number of vehicles are available daily to meet operational needs.
• Work with the fleet department and workshop to allocate and manage vehicle availability.
• Coordinate with maintenance providers to schedule servicing and urgent repairs.
• Track maintenance schedules and ensure roadworthiness of all vehicles.
• Maintain accurate records of defect reports, maintenance schedules, and compliance documentation.
