Job summary

Niyaa People is seeking a dedicated trainee for a permanent Trainee Domestic Solar PV Installation Engineer role in Kent. You will shadow experienced installers, assist with panel installation, and support site operations while gaining hands-on solar experience.

The position offers full on-the-job training, PPE, and progression toward an electrical apprenticeship. A UK driving licence, readiness to work at height, and a hands-on mindset are important.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working on a construction site or in a hands-on environment.
• Full UK driving licence is required.
• Genuine interest in Solar PV, construction, roofing or electrical work.
• Confidence working at height.
• Physical fitness for rooftop and outdoor work.
• Reliable and punctual approach.
• Willingness to learn and take instruction.
• CSCS card would be beneficial, with support to gain one.
• Ability to pass an Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Shadow experienced solar installers and learn how Solar PV systems are installed.
• Assist with installation of solar panels.
• Help unload deliveries and move materials around site.
• Perform general labouring and site support duties.
• Keep sites clean, tidy and organised.
• Learn to work safely on roofs and at height.
• Work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
• Support experienced installation team members.

Job description

Enjoy a permanent Trainee Domestic Solar PV Installation Engineer role with full training, tools, PPE and the opportunity to build a long-term career within renewable energy. Join a growing solar team working across Kent, learning directly from experienced installers while gaining hands‑on experience across a high volume of Solar PV projects.

This is a permanent, 40-hour-a-week position working Monday to Friday. You don't need previous solar experience, but you will need some experience of working in a site, construction or similarly practical environment, alongside the ambition and attitude to learn a skilled trade.

There is also potential for the right person to progress further and work towards an electrical apprenticeship.

I’d love to see CVs from anyone who has worked as a Trainee Domestic Solar PV Installation Engineer, Labourer, Roofing Labourer, Site Operative, Construction Labourer or Apprentice.

As a Trainee Domestic Solar PV Installation Engineer, you will be:

• Shadowing experienced solar installers and learning how Solar PV systems are installed
• Assisting with the installation of solar panels
• Helping unload deliveries and move materials around site
• Completing general labouring and site support duties
• Keeping sites clean, tidy and organised
• Learning how to work safely on roofs and at height

The Trainee Domestic Solar PV Installation Engineer role is offering:

• Around £29,000 per year depending on previous experience
• 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Full on-the-job Solar PV training
• Travel provided from the Kent office hub to different sites

Location & travel

This position is based from the Kent office and warehouse, with travel provided from the hub to sites across the region. Some projects may involve additional travel and occasional overnight stays.
