Job description

We are seeking several career motivated individuals to join an established Debt Advice team in South Manchester as Trainee Debt Advisers.

The successful candidates will have some previous exposure to the debt, insolvency, collections or financial services environment and will receive a comprehensive induction and structured training programme through the client’s Debt Advice Academy.

The role provides an opportunity to develop existing knowledge and experience into a specialist career within debt advice.

Following successful completion of the academy and induction programme, the successful candidates will join the existing Debt Advice team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with customers to understand their financial circumstances and current situation.
  • Conduct detailed and accurate financial assessments.
  • Obtain and record information relating to income, expenditure, debts and household circumstances.
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with customers who may be experiencing financial difficulty.
  • Explain relevant information and processes clearly, within the scope of the role.
  • Ensure customer information is recorded accurately and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
  • Handle customer conversations professionally, demonstrating empathy and understanding.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and relevant internal teams.
  • Follow established processes, quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive customer information.
  • Participate fully in academy training, coaching and ongoing development.
  • Consistently work towards individual and team performance expectations.
Experience Required

Candidates should ideally have some exposure to one or more of the following:

  • IVA or insolvency
  • Collections
  • Creditor services
  • Contact-centre experience within a financial environment

Previous experience as a Debt Adviser is not essential.

The client is specifically looking for candidates who understand the debt/financial services environment and have the potential to develop through structured training.

Communication
  • Confident discussing potentially sensitive financial circumstances.
  • Able to listen carefully and ask appropriate questions.
  • Able to explain information clearly and professionally.
Customer Focus
  • Empathetic and non-judgemental approach.
  • Professional and patient manner.
Accuracy & Organisation
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to accurately capture and maintain customer information.
  • Organised and able to manage workload effectively.
Learning & Development
  • Willingness to learn and absorb technical information.
  • Open to coaching and feedback.
  • Demonstrates ambition to develop within the debt advice sector.
  • Comfortable handling challenging or sensitive conversations.
  • Able to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Positive approach to working within a busy team environment.
Training & Development

All successful candidates will receive a full induction through the client’s Debt Advice Academy.

The training programme will provide the knowledge and skills required to develop within the role before progressing into the established Debt Advice team.

Ongoing coaching and development will also be provided.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is someone who has already had some exposure to debt or financial services, but is not necessarily an experienced Debt Adviser.

You may currently be working in debt management, insolvency, collections, creditor services, financial services or a related customer-facing role and are now looking for an opportunity to develop their skills and progress into debt advice.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has the right foundations and attitude, and wants to build a genuine career within the sector.
