Job summary

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Trainee Clinical Coder. The role provides a structured training programme to translate clinical information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes, with close supervision and progression toward NCCQ.

You will learn to work across designated training specialties, using EPR, PAS, ICE, and other systems, while maintaining data confidentiality under GDPR. The post starts on-site with potential hybrid working later on.

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths, English and Biology (or Combined Science).
• Strong accuracy in data entry and computer use.
• Experience in an NHS or healthcare setting is welcome but not essential.
• Desirable Medical terminology qualification (e.g., AMSPAR).

Responsibilities

• Undertake supervised clinical coding of inpatient and day-case activity within trainee specialties.
• Learn to abstract, analyse and translate clinical information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes with guidance.
• Retrieve missing clinical information and escalate unclear documentation to supervising staff.
• Submit coded work for checking and validation and respond to feedback.
