Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust invites applications for a trainee clinical coder. The role involves training to screen patient records, discharge summaries and clinical information to identify diagnoses, conditions and procedures relevant to care episodes.

Qualifications

• Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills are expected.
• Accuracy and close attention to detail are essential.
• Willingness to learn and develop in a training role.
• Ability to extract relevant information and work with colleagues and systems.

Responsibilities

• Review patient health records to extract information for full episode of care.
• Interpret clinical information to identify diagnoses, conditions and procedures.
• Translate information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes using approved systems.
• Ensure coded data is accurate and entered within national timescales.
• Liaise with staff to obtain missing information and resolve documentation queries.
• Manage workloads to meet coding deadlines while seeking support when needed.
• Complete the national Clinical Coding Standards Course and engage in structured training.
• Maintain coding knowledge through ongoing learning and standards updates.
