Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust hosts an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening programme in Gloucestershire and Swindon. The Trainee AAA Screening Technician Band 3 role supports community screening through ultrasound scanning and patient communication.

Undertake scanning to national standards, complete the required diploma, and participate in promotion events while developing expertise in vascular screening within the NHS.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 3 National Health Screeners Diploma in AAA screening.
• Clean full driving licence and daily access to a car.
• Good general education (5 GCSEs incl Biology).

Responsibilities

• Undertaking abdominal ultrasound scanning as part of the community AAA screening programme (training will be given).
• Ensuring abdominal ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.
• Explains and reassures patients attending the community abdominal aortic aneurysm-screening programme, especially where barriers to understanding exist.
• Ensures that members of the public attending clinics are informed and aware of the implications of AAA screening
• Attention to detail is crucial.
• Involvement in promotion events
