Job summary

CrossCountry in Newcastle is recruiting Train Managers with January 2027 start dates. You will join the On-Board team, delivering excellent customer service, checking and selling tickets, and guiding passengers on their journeys.

This role demands working shifts, including some weekends, with a 10-week training in Derby. Salary starts at £35,371 during training, rising to £41,292 on completion, with a 35-hour week, free uniform, pension, and travel privileges across our rail network.

We are recruiting for Train Managers to join CrossCountry at Newcastle, with start dates in January and throughout 2027.

Would you like to work onboard our Voyager trains, travelling at up to 125mph, helping to transport people across the UK? Average hours are 35 per week.

Train Managers are the face of CrossCountry, so you'll make sure that every journey is a great one for our customers. You will be responsible for checking and selling tickets on board our services, advising customers about their journey by communicating individually & in groups and always being aware of their individual needs.

Not every day runs smoothly on the Railway, and you could face many different challenges as a Train Manager, so you need to be able to deal with the unexpected in a calm but confident way. You will ensure the train environment is comfortable by fixing and reporting defective equipment and managing luggage issues so be prepared to get your hands dirty!!

You’ll get to work as a team with your fantastic On-Board colleagues to ensure that our customers have a memorable experience every time they travel with CrossCountry. Safety is always vitally important, we will train you on all procedures, rules and regulations so that you are prepared to take the lead should any critical situation demand it. Your initial 10-week training course will take place in Derby where you will be trained on all aspects of the role.

This is not a 9-to-5 role so look away now if you don't like working shifts or some weekends, but that means you'll get time off in the week.

You must live within 1 hour's commute of Newcastle and be able to travel at unsocial hours reliably due to the shiftwork involved.
