Job summary

Spire Harpenden Hospital in Harpenden, England, is seeking a dedicated Theatre Assistant to join our busy Operating Theatre team. This permanent, full-time role offers 37.5 hours per week and a clear path to a long-term career within Spire Healthcare.

You will support safe, high-quality patient care by assisting scrub nurses, transporting patients, preparing instruments, maintaining infection control, and contributing to a well-run theatre environment.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care or Care Certificate or equivalent.
• Previous theatre experience is desirable.
• Experience as Healthcare Assistant or in a hospital setting is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist Scrub Nurses within operating theatres.
• Support patients within the anaesthetic room.
• Safely transporting patients to and from theatre and wards.
• Opening sterile packs and preparing equipment for procedures.
• Preparing, checking and handling surgical instruments.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention.
• Contributing to a safe, efficient and high-quality theatre environment.
• Providing reassurance and support to patients throughout their theatre experience.

What You'll Be Doing:

As a key member of the theatre team, you will support the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. Your responsibilities will include

• Assisting Scrub Nurses within operating theatres.
• Supporting patients within the anaesthetic room.
• Safely transporting patients to and from theatre and wards.
• Opening sterile packs and preparing equipment for procedures.
• Preparing, checking and handling surgical instruments.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and control.
• Contributing to a safe, efficient and high-quality theatre environment.
• Providing reassurance and support to patients throughout their theatre experience.
