Job summary

British Textile Manufacturing in Carlisle is seeking a Technical & Quality Assistant to support the full product lifecycle from material selection through manufacturing, testing, customer approvals and continuous improvement. This hands-on factory role blends heritage craft with modern engineering.

You will work with production teams, customers and suppliers to maintain high technical standards and assist in developing textiles printed for designers worldwide.

Qualifications

• Essential understanding of textiles, fabrics, fibres, dyes, colours or textile manufacturing processes.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing and quality checks.
• Confident communication skills with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
• Practical, hands-on mindset, comfortable working on the factory floor.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage varied technical tasks.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to work across multiple departments.
• Qualification in Textile Technology, Chemistry, Materials Science or similar.
• Experience in textile manufacturing, printing, dyeing or finishing.
• Knowledge of colour management and colour matching.
• Understanding of quality systems and testing procedures.
• Experience working directly with customers or suppliers.
• Awareness of continuous improvement principles.

Responsibilities

• Product Development - Supporting R&D, trialing fabrics, dyes and finishing techniques, and helping bring new products into production.
• Customer Technical Support - Working directly with customers on technical requirements, colour matching, approvals and complaint investigations.
• Manufacturing Support - Spending regular time on the factory floor, monitoring processes, advising production teams and resolving technical issues.
• Quality Assurance - Conducting product testing, inspections and quality checks, analysing results and supporting corrective actions.
• Supplier & Material Management - Liaising with suppliers, reviewing technical data and supporting material selection and trials.
• Continuous Improvement - Identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and consistency across manufacturing processes.

Hours – Monday to Friday 38 hr working week

Technical & Quality Assistant

I am searching for a Technical & Quality Assistant to support the full product lifecycle, from material selection and development through to manufacturing, testing, customer approvals and continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on, factory‑floor role where tradition meets modern engineering, and where your technical curiosity will genuinely make an impact.
