Job summary

Newlyn School's Early Years team is recruiting a Nursery Practitioner to support play-based learning for young children. The post is 30 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.15pm, term time only, with involvement in Forest School, Beach School and wrap-around care.

Visa sponsorship is not available, and the start is as soon as possible. You will work under the Nursery management team and EYFS Lead to deliver engaging activities and monitor children's progress.

Qualifications

• Proof of relevant qualifications, checked before employment.
• Experience supporting young children.
• Enhanced DBS check.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Two satisfactory references.
• Completion of a health assessment questionnaire.

Responsibilities

• Deliver play-based, child-centred learning 1:1, in small groups and across whole-class provision, under the Nursery management team and EYFS Lead.
• Lead small groups and support individual children in activities for communication, early literacy, early maths, social development and independence.
• Engage children in purposeful conversation, using open-ended questions, modelling and rich vocabulary, and follow children's interests.
• Use emotion coaching and co-regulation to help children label, understand and manage their feelings.
• Plan and run continuous provision linked to learning goals, adapting activities so all children can access and progress.
• Observe children closely and contribute to observations, assessments and next steps.
• Support early phonics, including listening, sound discrimination, oral blending and segmenting.
• Create multisensory early reading and mark-making, and build literacy through songs, rhymes and storytelling.
• Create a nurturing, stimulating environment where every child feels safe and valued.
• Support personalised provision, including for children with additional needs.
• Build warm, trusting relationships with children, families and colleagues.
• Take part in Forest School, Beach School, clubs and wrap-around care, with optional Holiday Club support.
