Job summary

National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port seeks an Operational Supervisor to lead a team and ensure exceptional visitor experiences. The role covers management of staff and volunteers, safe operations, and delivering high standards of cleanliness and service.

You will drive customer satisfaction, support revenue-generating activities, and contribute to achieving site targets and budgets. This is a 4-month temporary, site-based position with a busy weekend pattern.

Qualifications

• Relevant occupational qualifications in disciplines for bespoke tasks, e.g. food hygiene.
• Valid driving licence appropriate to vehicle for specific roles.
• Proven experience in a customer facing role relevant to the task.
• Retail/catering experience is desirable.
• Proven experience in direct sales and handling cash.
• Experience in monitoring budgets and providing management reporting.
• Experience in leading and motivating teams to deliver tasks.
• Experience in leading volunteers.
• Experience with computers and software packages.
• Ability to work flexibly according to business demands.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize workloads.

Responsibilities

• Manage teams of staff/volunteers to deliver a safe environment and excellent customer service (retail, catering, conferencing).
• Adopt required emergency, safety, operational, financial procedures as appropriate.
• Plan and implement safe working procedures with risk assessments and method statements.
• Address customer queries and resolve concerns professionally.
• Deliver business plan objectives for services, events and maintenance within budgets.
• Assist with future priorities and budget planning.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and site safety.
• Identify maintenance needs and prioritise tasks.
• Coordinate with contractors and internal teams for works.
• Coach and develop team performance; report on customer satisfaction metrics.
• Lead volunteers, ensuring safety and a positive volunteer experience.
• Recruit and retain staff and volunteers to support attractions operations.
