Job summary

Colonial Group in Ellesmere Port Museum is seeking a Casual Attraction Assistant to join the cafe and retail areas, welcoming visitors from around the world and ensuring every visit is memorable.

You will work flexible, ad-hoc hours across the year, including weekends and holidays when busy, with duties spanning sales, events support, demonstrations, and assisting volunteers.

Qualifications

• Customer-facing experience in retail or hospitality is helpful.
• Basic IT skills with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn the systems.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; courteous and helpful.
• Ability to work under pressure during busy periods and thrive in a busy environment.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload.

Responsibilities

• Provide a warm welcome and a positive customer experience.
• Sell retail items or support activities at events to ensure visitors feel welcomed and want to return.
• Ensure customer excellence; be approachable and helpful, especially at admissions desk or via phone/email.
• Promote and deliver special events.
• Work across departments including café, retail and admissions/welcome desk as rota allows.
• Keep stock up to date, replenished and help with stocktaking counts.
• Assist with general duties such as distributing post and handling deliveries.

This role offers flexible, ad‑hoc working hours across the year based at our Ellesmere Port Museum.

Role Overview

As a Casual Attraction Assistant, you will be working in the café and retail areas of the museum offering a wonderful warm welcome to visitors from all over the world.Your focus is to make sure that every visit is memorable. The role is incredibly diverse and may include welcoming tour groups, selling popular merchandise, assisting with events and activities, cleaning duties, directing families around the site,selling ice cream, engaging with boaters, assisting with demonstrations, and working with volunteers.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide a warm welcome and a positive customerexperience.
• Selling retail items or supporting activities at events, ensuring every visitor feels welcome and is keen to return.
• Ensure that customer excellence is always a priority - being approachable and helpfulin responding quickly to questions and dealing with enquiries, particularly when
• on the admissions desk, or by phone/email.
• Promotion and delivery of special events.
• Flexible approach to the rota to work across departments involving café, retail and admissions/welcome desk.
• Ensure stock is kept up to date, replenished, recorded, and help to prepare any stocktaking counts.
• Support the team with general duties that arise throughout the day such as distributing post, receiving and recording general deliveries.

Skills & Qualifications

• You may have some relevant experience in a similar customer facing environment (e.g retail, hospitality), however more importantly, you can demonstrate you understand what a great customer experience is
• Basic IT skills - using Microsoft Office & Internet, and willing to learn our systems
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills - courteous and helpful
• Ability to work well under pressure during busy periods and thrive on a busy working environment
• Attention to detail
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload
