Job description

About the role

Are you passionate about supporting vulnerable residents and ensuring they have access to safe, secure, and well-managed accommodation?

We are looking for a proactive and organised Temporary Accommodation Site Officer to manage and support the day-to-day operation of our relocatable temporary accommodation sites across West Northamptonshire.

In this important role, you will help ensure residents are housed in a safe, clean, secure, and well-maintained environment, promoting wellbeing while ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with residents, colleagues, contractors, and partner organisations to maintain high standards across our accommodation sites and support positive outcomes for those experiencing housing difficulties.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Children and Adults Barred List check. West Northamptonshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

As a Temporary Accommodation Site Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of relocatable temporary accommodation sites, ensuring residents are housed in a safe, clean, secure and well-maintained environment.

You will carry out site inspections, monitor health and safety compliance, coordinate repairs and maintenance, liaise with contractors, and maintain accurate records. Working closely with residents, you will provide practical support, respond to enquiries and concerns, promote positive community standards, and help residents successfully sustain their accommodation.

You will also manage resident move-ins and move-outs, complete inductions and property inspections, and ensure accommodation is prepared efficiently for new occupancies, helping to maximise availability and deliver a high-quality service for those in temporary accommodation.

About you

You don't need experience across all aspects of the job as that will form part of your development journey, but you will need experience of managing temporary accommodation, supported housing or rented housing and knowledge of private rented sector legislation, policy and practice, as this is central to the role.

We would be particularly interested in hearing from you if you have training or experience in the application of the Decent Homes Standard or the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.

You will have previous experience of using your excellent communication skills to negotiate and communicate with a wide range of people, including customers, colleagues, landlords, letting agents and other partnership agencies.

You will be able to smoothly manage the private rented sector processes whilst being able use your own initiative to 'think outside of the box'.
