Job summary

Weston College in Bristol is opening a new Advanced Manufacturing Technical Excellence College. We are seeking a Technician - Engineering to support staff and learners in Filton, manage workshops, and prepare learning activities.

You will maintain equipment and inventory, advise on stock levels, and carry out health and safety checks to ensure high standards. An apprenticeship option may be available during the post.

Qualifications

• Level 2 Qualification in Engineering is required.
• Excellent organisational skills are essential.
• A good knowledge of Health and Safety within workshops is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to staff and students within the Engineering department.
• Assist in the management of workshops and safely set up/prepare learning activities.
• Clean, maintain and repair equipment within the workshops.
• Maintain an inventory of equipment and materials and advise staff to ensure stocks are maintained.
• Undertake regular health and safety checks on equipment and supervise to ensure safety standards are met.

Job description

As one of the fastest-growing Colleges in the UK, Weston College is excited to be opening the brand-new Advanced Manufacturing Technical Excellence College, which will welcome its first learners in September 2026.

We are currently looking for a Technician - Engineering, to support the team, in Filton, Bristol.

As a Technician, you will provide technical support to both the staff and students within our Engineering department. You will assist in the management of workshops and will safely set up and prepare learning activities as well as cleaning, maintaining and repairing equipment within these areas.

You will also maintain an inventory of all relevant equipment and materials and will advise staff to ensure that these stocks are maintained.

A good knowledge of Health and Safety within the workshops will be required, as you will be required to undertake regular checks on relevant equipment and will provide supervision to ensure that work and safety standards are being maintained.

Required skills and qualifications

• Level 2 Qualification in Engineering
• Up to date knowledge of Engineering practices
• Excellent organisational skills

Should you wish to gain further qualifications, there may be an opportunity to complete an Apprenticeship whilst in post.
