As part of our mission to Get, Grow, and Keep Great People, we're continuing to strengthen the way we deliver safe, efficient, and compliant services across the NHS estate.

We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Technical Services Supervisor to join our Estates team based in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong people leader with an engineering background who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, driving high standards, and making a real difference across healthcare facilities.

About the Role

As Technical Services Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day delivery of engineering services across a portfolio of NHS properties within Southampton and the wider SO postcode area.

Based at Royal South Hants Hospital, you will supervise a team of engineers and specialist contractors, ensuring planned and reactive maintenance activities are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with statutory and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in maintaining compliance, supporting operational performance, and ensuring our healthcare environments remain safe and fully operational for patients and colleagues.

This is a mobile role with responsibility for supporting multiple sites across the region. A company vehicle will be provided, and participation in the on-call rota (currently one week in seven) is required.

  • Monitor contractor performance and support the delivery of specialist maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to operational teams and stakeholders.
  • Support compliance management activities, ensuring accurate records and documentation are maintained.
  • Investigate faults, identify solutions, and coordinate remedial works where required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and estates services.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and support business continuity requirements.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal teams, customers, and external contractors.
What You'll Bring
  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience within building services, facilities management, estates, or a similar engineering environment.
  • Demonstrable experience leading, supervising, or managing engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems and maintenance practices.
  • Experience managing contractors and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience working within a healthcare or NHS environment.
  • Understanding of statutory compliance within large-scale property portfolios.
