Job summary

Urenco at Capenhurst seeks a Technical Safety Specialist (Project Support) to implement safety frameworks across global projects. You will work across nuclear, process, electrical, chemical and lifting disciplines, providing practical guidance to embed safety throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Engineering, Science, Health & Safety or related discipline at degree level.
• Chartered status or postgraduate qualifications desirable.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution desirable.
• Experience delivering technical safety (Process Safety) support in high-hazard or highly regulated environments.
• Experience with Health, Safety and Environmental management systems.
• Experience supporting major engineering, construction, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience developing or implementing technical safety improvement initiatives.
• Strong understanding of technical safety, hazard identification and risk management.
• Experience supporting HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA and related safety studies.
• Knowledge of relevant HSE legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
• Results-focused with a commitment to safety excellence; analytical and problem-solving; collaborative and customer-focused; continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the execution of technical safety delivery across major projects and programmes.
• Develop practical safety guidance, procedures, templates and working documents.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and support HSE objectives across the portfolio.
• Provide specialist technical safety advice to project teams and stakeholders.
• Facilitate HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA studies; support SIL determination and safety verification.
• Support functional safety assessments and fire risk assessments as required.
• Collaborate with Design Authority, R&D and SMEs to embed safety into designs.
• Review technical documentation, engineering assessments and safety deliverables.
• Support commissioning, safety-critical equipment verification and handover activities.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and Urenco standards.
• Drive lessons learned, best practice and knowledge sharing across projects.
• Contribute to training, methodologies and assurance activities.
