About Royal Mail Property & Facilities Solutions (PFSL)

PFSL is responsible for FM delivery and maintaining one of the largest corporate real estate and property portfolios in Europe, with over 1800 sites. We focus on high standards of technical assurance and customer service, delivering both hard and soft services across the estate to support Royal Mail’s position as the leading delivery company in the UK.

Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Technical Operations Manager to lead and manage first-line Technical Service Managers within our London and South East portfolio.

The Role

As Technical Operations Manager, you will lead a team of six Technical Service Managers and oversee approximately 125 employees. You will be responsible for delivering operational profit & loss of approximately £15-20m across multiple engineering disciplines (M&E, Fire & Security, Building Fabric, Street Furniture) within your region. Ensuring customer satisfaction, meeting contract KPIs, and maintaining strong customer relationships are key responsibilities.

You will join three other Technical Operational Managers and should demonstrate strong leadership skills that promote a safety-first culture, excellent service delivery, effective people management, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Implement FM strategy and target operating models to deliver service excellence safely and profitably.
  • Oversee the safety and delivery of all contract aspects within your region in line with SLAs.
  • Lead your team to achieve service excellence.
  • Take full P&L accountability for the regional portfolio valued up to £20m per annum.
  • Drive operational improvements and contribute to business initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Lead service line improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Manage escalations and critical incidents related to technical services.
  • Collaborate with union representatives on business changes.
  • Participate in out-of-hours escalation and call-out duties as required.
About You
  • Proven technical leader with experience managing FM operations.
  • Experience managing mobile and static technical teams across multiple sites.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence skills.
  • Relevant technical qualification at or above NVQ level 5 and/or at least 5 years of leadership experience in building services or similar.
  • Experience managing P&L with a track record of cost control and margin achievement.
  • Experience developing and managing technical teams, including performance and employee relations.
  • Strong analytical skills for performance data review and improvement planning.
  • Excellent influencing, presentation, and reporting skills.
  • Deep knowledge of health, safety, and compliance legislation in building services.
  • Experience working with trade unions.
