Job summary

Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking a Technical Officer AI in Manufacturing to join the PrintCity-based team. You will support AI-driven product development and manufacturing research, maintain complex equipment, and train users across research, teaching, and industry partnerships.

The role requires hands-on operation of CAD tools, 3D printing and scanning workflows, and programming experience with Python, PHP and MySQL, plus API development.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Additive Manufacturing and Hydrogen Technologies Technical Team at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Technical Officer AI in Manufacturing. Based at the PrintCity facilities, this is an exciting opportunity to use your specialist skills to support the research, teaching and industrial partners projects taking place in Manchester Metropolitan University.

About the Role:

As a Technical Officer, you will:

• Support the PrintCity Artificial Intelligence Specialist to apply AI solutions to product development and manufacturing within industry on the Challenge AI project.
• Work independently in your specialist area, taking responsibility for a designated workspace and the provision of an excellent service.
• Be responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and general maintenance of specialist equipment in your area.
• Devise innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
• Train service users in the use of specialist equipment and software.
• Work with the Project team to support the testing and validation of AI solutions.

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

• Ability to operate a range of lab/workshop equipment safely and to a high standard, including skills in the use of CAD, a variety of 3D printing and 3D scanning and associated software.
• Ability to apply AI for 3D scanning and post processing of scan data.
• Proficiency in programming languages (Python, PHP, MySQL, etc) and API development(RESTful,GraphQL, etc).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships.
• Excellent technical skills in your specialist area and be flexible and capable of learning new techniques/applying your skills to different applications to support service users and technical colleagues.
• Have the ability to work under your own initiative and demonstrate a willingness to support technical colleagues.
• Be willing to get hands-on with the equipment and problem solve
• The ability to work under pressure and juggle competing priorities effectively.
