Job summary

MMP Consultancy Limited seeks an experienced Technical Lead - Renewable Technologies across Kent to lead low-carbon heating projects for a residential property portfolio. The role focuses on performance, standards development, and strategic support, with ~50% operational delivery and 50% technical development.

You'll oversee air source heat pumps, solar PV and emerging tech, mentor teams, and drive quality improvements while ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Significant experience with air source heat pumps and renewable heating technologies.
• Fault-finding and diagnostics across heating systems and controls.
• Experience servicing, maintaining and commissioning heat pump systems.
• Knowledge of low-temperature heating principles and controls.
• Mentoring or coaching technical teams and knowledge sharing.
• Understanding housing standards and building regulations.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Plumbing/Heating/HVAC/Building Services.
• Heat Pump Qualification (BPEC or equivalent).
• F-Gas Certification and Unvented Hot Water Qualification.
• Strong IT skills and using digital maintenance systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management, Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Act as the organisation's technical lead for air source heat pumps and low-carbon heating technologies.
• Diagnose complex faults and system performance issues.
• Provide specialist technical support to operatives, contractors and management teams.
• Attend properties requiring advanced technical investigation and support.
• Improve first-time fix rates and reduce repeat repairs.
• Lead development and improvement of heat pump standards and procedures.
• Develop guidance on servicing, commissioning, diagnostics and controls.
• Capture operational learning and embed continuous improvements.
• Deliver technical coaching, toolbox talks and training to teams.
• Support long-term low-carbon heating strategy with Asset Management teams.
• Contribute to investment planning and lifecycle management.
• Analyse asset data for trends and performance improvements.
• Act as the key technical contact for manufacturers and contractors.
• Monitor installation quality and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job description

MMP Consultancy is seeking an experienced Technical Lead - Renewable Technologies for a permanent opportunity based across Kent. This position offers a salary of £52,471 per annum and is a fantastic opportunity for a renewable heating specialist to play a leading role in the development and performance of low-carbon technologies across a residential property portfolio.

Working within the property maintenance team, you'll act as the technical expert for renewable and low-carbon assets, including air source heat pumps, solar PV systems and emerging technologies. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent supporting operational delivery, diagnostics and complex repairs, with the remaining 50% focused on technical development, team upskilling, standards development, quality improvement and strategic support.

• Support the long-term low-carbon heating strategy alongside Asset Management and Development teams.
• Contribute to investment planning, lifecycle management and future renewable technology programmes.

• Act as the key technical contact for manufacturers and specialist contractors.
• Monitor installation quality and technical compliance across renewable technology projects.
• Ensure all installations comply with statutory regulations, manufacturer requirements and warranty obligations.
• Support quality assurance activities and challenge poor practice where necessary.

Requirements

• Significant experience working with air source heat pumps and renewable heating technologies.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic experience across heating systems, controls and hydronic systems.
• Experience servicing, maintaining and commissioning heat pump systems.
• Good understanding of low-temperature heating principles, controls and system optimisation.
• Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting technical and trade-based teams.
• Knowledge of housing standards, landlord compliance obligations and property maintenance environments.
• Understanding of relevant legislation, statutory requirements and building regulations.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Plumbing, Heating, HVAC or Building Services.
• Heat Pump Qualification (BPEC or equivalent).
• F-Gas Certification.
• Unvented Hot Water Qualification.
• Strong IT skills and experience using digital maintenance and repairs systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• Membership of a relevant professional body such as IGEM or CIPHE.
• IOSH qualification or advanced health and safety certification.
• Experience working within social housing, housing associations or property maintenance services.
