Job summary

SMG in London is seeking a Senior Technical Lead to head a product-focused engineering squad. You will own system architecture, drive resilient cloud deployments, and mentor engineers while aligning with SMG standards and security practices.

You will collaborate with product teams to translate goals into engineering outcomes, ensure high-quality code, and deliver observable, cost-efficient product solutions across platforms.

Qualifications

• Extensive software engineering experience with leadership in product engineering squads.
• Ability to design, review and deliver frontend UIs and backend services; contribute code and review.
• Experience partnering with product teams to translate goals into engineering work.
• Experience mentoring engineers and lining management responsibilities.
• Experience with NoSQL (MongoDB) and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Experience operating services in public clouds (AWS/Azure) and cloud-agnostic design.
• Knowledge of containers, orchestration, CI/CD and Terraform; security-aware design.

Responsibilities

• Lead a product-focused engineering squad and provide cross-platform architectural leadership.
• Own system and delivery decisions, ensure resilient cloud deployments and operational excellence.
• Define and evolve technical standards, tooling, and practices across SMG.
• Code, debug, pair-design with engineers to unblock delivery and enable autonomy.
• Conduct architectural reviews; coach engineers and drive iterative improvements.
• Support delivery reliability: define CI/CD, IaC, deployment patterns, observability and runbooks.
• Ensure production readiness, collaborate with QA leads and SREs for cost and resilience.
• Embed Security-by-Design, threat modelling, least-privilege IAM and secrets management.
• Collaborate with other Technical Leads to align patterns and SMG Technical Principles.
