Job summary

Our Adelaide team at AECOM is seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead design management for a major defence infrastructure programme. You will guide rapid, high-stakes design work, coordinating across Australia and the UK, ensuring safety and quality at every stage.

You will bring NSQEP capability, extensive leadership of multidisciplinary teams and a strong background in design management for regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related discipline with postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
• 25+ years delivering complex projects within defence, nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
• Chartered status or professional membership with a recognised body.
• NSQEP experience is highly regarded; capability to work in NSQEP environment encouraged.
• Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams through complex design and project delivery.
• Strong technical background in design management or safety-critical/defence infrastructure.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management; ability to influence at all levels.
• Track record of developing high-performing teams and contributing to business growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated design teams across Australia and the UK to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership across complex process engineering systems, focusing on radiological waste management and supporting infrastructure.
• Guide design integration across multiple disciplines and manage project risks.
• Support the Design Lead with technical advice, program planning and client/safety forums representation.
• Mentor engineers and specialists, building NSQEP capability and strong nuclear safety culture.
• Build trusted client relationships and identify opportunities to deliver innovative solutions.
• Contribute to business growth through client engagement and high technical standards.
