Job summary

AECOM in Adelaide, Australia is seeking an Associate Director – Architecture (NSQEP) to provide architectural leadership on complex defence, research and nuclear infrastructure projects. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, shape design strategy, and ensure outcomes meet nuclear safety requirements and Defence standards.

Suitably qualified candidates will be considered for relocation; Australian Citizenship or AUKUS clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Accredited degree in Architecture with NSQEP/nuclear defence exposure.
• Ideally 10–15 years of architecture experience including leadership on complex defence, research, healthcare or safety-critical projects.
• Demonstrated experience in highly regulated environments with nuclear/defence exposure valued.
• Strong understanding of nuclear safety frameworks, Defence design requirements and government project delivery standards.
• Experience leading architectural teams and multidisciplinary delivery.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; client relationship capability.
• Chartered status or relevant postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded.

• Lead the architectural design and delivery of complex defence, research and nuclear infrastructure projects.
• Provide design leadership across multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, coordinated outcomes.
• Oversee outputs that support nuclear safety, regulatory approvals and project governance.
• Act as a trusted advisor to clients and project partners throughout all phases.
• Guide development of innovative, practical, resilient design solutions for complex buildings.
• Mentor and develop architecture team members and foster a collaborative culture.
• Support business growth through client engagement and technical leadership.
