Job summary

AECOM in Adelaide is seeking an Associate Director – Project Architect to lead the design and delivery of complex defence, research, and nuclear facilities within highly regulated environments. You will provide architectural leadership across multidisciplinary teams from concept through to delivery, while aligning with safety and operational requirements.

Qualifications

• Accredited degree in Architecture with AUKUS registration and NSQEP exposure.
• 10–15+ years’ experience in architecture, including leadership roles on complex projects.
• Experience as Project Architect or Principal Consultant on medium to large-scale projects.
• Proficiency in defence, laboratories, healthcare, or nuclear facilities environments.
• Understanding of Defence design standards and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with safety-in-design, human factors, and complex systems integration.
• Australian Citizenship or eligibility for AUKUS clearance; NSQEP recognition valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and delivery of complex defence, research and nuclear projects.
• Act as Project Architect, ensuring design intent and high-quality outcomes.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design and systems integration.
• Translate safety and regulatory requirements into architectural solutions.
• Oversee design development and compliance with Defence standards.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to align project objectives.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project teams.

Education

Accredited degree in Architecture with AUKUS registration and NSQEP exposure

10–15+ years’ architecture experience with leadership roles

Project Architect / Principal Consultant on large projects

Experience in defence, laboratories, healthcare or nuclear facilities
