The Company:

Our client is a leading UK-based conveyor and intralogistics systems integrator, designing, manufacturing and installing automated warehouse solutions for some of the UK’s largest logistics and distribution businesses.

Their specialist solutions include conveyor systems, automated material handling equipment, robotics, and warehouse automation projects.

Unlike traditional manufacturers, they offer a complete end-to-end service — from initial design and engineering through to manufacture, installation and aftersales support.

The business currently employs around 150 members of staff across two UK sites and has experienced significant growth, increasing turnover from £12 million in 2018 to over £54 million today, with further growth expected.

With a strong order book secured well into 2026 and continued investment into improving internal processes, they are now looking for a Technical Author / Document Controller to take ownership of documentation standards across the business.

The Role:

As a Technical Author / Document Controller, you will become the central point of contact for all project documentation, working closely with engineering, project management and customer teams to ensure technical information is accurate, controlled and delivered to the required standard.

This is a newly created position where you will have the opportunity to build and improve documentation processes across the business, introducing structure, consistency and modern tools such as AI-assisted document creation and automation.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Creating, formatting, reviewing and proofreading technical documentation including FDS, O&M manuals, commissioning documents, engineering reports and compliance records
  • Managing document control processes including version control, revision history, approvals and document registers
  • Working with engineers to gather technical information and translate complex engineering input into clear customer-facing documentation
  • Developing reusable templates and improving documentation standards across projects
  • Maintaining a controlled library of technical documents and ensuring full traceability
  • Liaising with engineering and project teams to chase outstanding information and ensure deadlines are met
  • Ensuring documentation meets customer requirements, internal standards and industry expectations
  • Using AI and automation tools to improve document creation, quality checking and efficiency
  • Supporting continuous improvement of the company’s documentation processes
What we’re looking for in a Technical Author / Document Controller:
  • Previous experience within a document control, technical authoring or engineering documentation role
  • Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing, automation or technical environment
  • Strong written English with excellent attention to detail and proofreading ability
  • Highly organised, methodical and comfortable managing multiple documents and deadlines
  • Ability to understand and structure technical information from engineering teams
  • Confident communicator who is comfortable working with technical stakeholders
  • Experience with document management systems is beneficial (BIM 360, ERP systems, etc.)
  • A background within mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or automation engineering would be advantageous

This role would suit someone who enjoys bringing structure to information, improving processes and taking ownership of documentation quality across a business.

The Benefits:
  • Competitive salary package of £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience
  • 4 days a weel remote working available, with the option to work from the Nottingham office full time
  • Flexible working hours – standard hours 8:30am – 5pm Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 4pm Friday
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Salary sacrifice car scheme available
  • Opportunity to work with modern AI and automation tools within a growing engineering business
  • Genuine ownership and autonomy within a newly created role
  • Supportive environment with opportunities to develop and shape processes
