Job summary

Yolk Recruitment is seeking an experienced Technical Author in South Wales for a hybrid, permanent role. You will own the documentation lifecycle across a broad IT estate, collaborating closely with technical teams and stakeholders.

Work across Azure, datacentres, end-user computing and on-premises systems, turning complex information into practical, user-focused content and establishing robust documentation standards.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Technical Author/Writer in a technical documentation role.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible content.
• Experience with Azure, on-premises and cloud environments.
• Comfort working with engineers and SMEs to extract required information.
• Excellent communication skills across different levels of the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation across IT services and environments.
• Produce technical documentation, system guides, processes, specifications and operational docs.
• Collaborate with technical teams and SMEs to capture information about complex systems.

Technical Author | South Wales | Hybrid | Permanent

We're working with a leading organisation operating within a highly technical and business-critical environment, as they continue to expand their Technical Operations function.

They're looking for an experienced Technical Author to take ownership of creating, improving and maintaining technical and operational documentation across a broad IT estate.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, working directly with technical teams and turning complex information into documentation that is genuinely useful to the people relying on it.

You’ll work across a varied technology environment including Azure, datacentres, end-user computing and on-premises systems, working closely with technical specialists, subject matter experts and senior stakeholders.

The role

You’ll be responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation across a range of IT services and environments.

This will include:

• Producing technical documentation, system guides, processes, specifications and operational documentation.
• Working directly with technical teams and subject matter experts to understand complex systems and processes.
• Translating technical information into clear, concise and accessible content for different audiences.
• Establishing and maintaining documentation standards, style guidelines and best practice.
• Reviewing and improving existing documentation using feedback, support tickets and stakeholder interviews.
• Managing documentation through version control and ensuring content remains aligned with system and software changes.
• Reviewing, editing and proofreading documentation to maintain a consistently high standard.
• Identifying opportunities to improve the way technical documentation is created, managed and accessed.
• Working with stakeholders across technical teams, operations, senior management and end users.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with proven experience as a Technical Author, Technical Writer or in a similar technical documentation role.

You’ll need to be comfortable understanding technical concepts and working closely with engineers and technical specialists to extract the information needed to produce accurate documentation.

• Technical and user-focused documentation

You also need to be a strong communicator who is comfortable working with people at different levels of an organisation, from technical specialists through to senior stakeholders.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who can work independently, ask the right questions and spot where documentation or processes could be improved.
