Job description

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is looking for a demonstrably experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Band 7 Physiotherapist to join our highly regarded musculoskeletal (MSK) Outpatient physiotherapy team. The physiotherapy MSK outpatient service for Plymouth and South Hams (Kingsbridge and Tavistock) is hosted by the acute trust but provides the service at various locations across the Plymouth and South Hams region. This post is currently based within the Outpatient department at Derriford Hospital and rotates through peripheral clinics. This post also has the potential to participate with the wider band 7 central and peripheral rotations through Kingsbridge and Tavistock in the future.

The successful candidate will join a well-established team to support, deliver, develop and promote this service across the local Healthcare Community. ***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

Undertake a team leader role, with support from the Deputy Out-patient Physiotherapy Manager and Head of Physiotherapy in planning, co-ordinating, delivering, developing and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to out- patients (musculoskeletal), on a day-to-day basis.

Provide a high level of clinical leadership to a designated physiotherapy team and more junior staff in the department. Ensure governance agenda is delivered in line with trust structure.

To provide clinical leadership and expertise, with respect to MSK outpatients within the trust in liaison with Deputy Out-patient Physiotherapy manager and other clinical specialists.

To hold responsibility for leading and managing the outpatient team on a daily basis, with support from the Deputy Out-patient Physiotherapy Manager and Head of Physiotherapy.

To supervise/performance manage all staff line managed by this post, inclusive of the clinical education and management of physiotherapy students.

To take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have complex and/or chronic presentation, and to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner

To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
  • Extensive post graduate demonstrable experience across all specialities.
  • Previous demonstrable experience at a Senior level within field of outpatient care, dealing with broad / complex caseload.
  • Proven evidence of leadership and team working abilities
  • Proven evidence of: oLeadership and team working abilities. oAppraising and supervising junior staff / students. oTeaching. oCPD and relevant post graduate training and integrating EBP into current practice.
  • Clinical educator course
  • A proven awareness of current NHS and Health issues related to MSK Out-patient Care.
  • Proven evidence of involvement with research. Ability to apply research to practice
  • Previous demonstrable experience working at similar senior level within MSK.
  • Demonstrable experience within acute NHS environment
Qualifications
  • Degree (BSc Hons Physiotherapy) or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Attendance at additional relevant professional courses
  • M.Sc. in the relevant area.
  • Leadership and Management training.
  • Proven evidence of involvement with Audit/ research.
