Job summary

About us

We currently have an exciting vacancy for a teaching assistant within our team to enable us to continue to build on our success and support some of the most vulnerable children in the city. The successful candidate will join a passionate group of teachers and teaching assistants who are supporting English as an Additional Language (EAL), Gypsy Roma Traveller (GRT) and asylum seeking or refugee children across the full age and ability range in the City of Salford.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for equality and diversity and will understand the principles of ethnic minority achievement in schools. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to relate to and communicate with a wide range of people in schools, the local authority and other services are essential. The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment, being supportive, adaptable, and flexible but also with the ability to work independently within agreed service priorities.

About the role

Teaching assistants in this service are key peripatetic professionals within the local authority, supporting the children directly in schools across the age and ability range. Applicants would need to demonstrate expertise in current support and learning strategies to ensure the best possible outcomes for EAL, GRT and asylum and refugee children. An ability to drive and access to car is an essential requirement of this post.

Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check currently £49.50. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £12.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £49.50.
