Job summary

St Vincent De Paul RC Primary School is seeking a Teaching Assistant Level 1 to provide 1:1 support for a child with additional needs. The role focuses on autism, communication and sensory support within a supportive team and inclusive setting.

You will contribute to assessments and individual support plans, work alongside teachers and specialists, and participate in training for ongoing professional development to promote pupil wellbeing and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children with complex SEND and ability to provide highly personalised support.
• Sound understanding of sensory-based approaches to learning and a sensory curriculum.
• Patience, empathy and resilience to build trusting relationships with children with communication, sensory and behavioural needs.
• Experience of supporting children with autism, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs and/or complex learning needs.
• Ability to adapt activities to individual needs, interests and developmental stages.
• Excellent observation skills to respond to a child's communication, emotional and sensory needs.
• Commitment to inclusion, independence and pupil wellbeing in all aspects of school life.
• Willingness to collaborate with teachers, SEND professionals, therapists, parents and other agencies.
• Strong communication and record-keeping for assessments, reviews and plans.
• Calm, positive, and flexible approach to changing school-day situations.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people.
• Willingness to engage in relevant training and development to support the child's needs.
• Experience of EHCPs and working in specialist or resource provision settings.
