Job summary

Samuel Laycock School in Ashton Under Lyne is recruiting for a Level 1 Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic SEN team. The role supports pupils aged 11-16 with moderate to severe learning difficulties and autistic spectrum conditions, under the New Bridge MAT.

The post is based at Samuel Laycock School with a 34-hour week (term-time plus 5 days) and an NJC salary package including a SEN allowance. DBS and safeguarding checks apply.

Samuel Laycock is delighted to be part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT) having joined on 1st April 2022. The Trust is a growing family of schools catering for young people aged 4 to 19 with an EHCP currently in the local authorities of Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale. The Trustees are looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Level 1 Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic, growing and committed staff team.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate how they meet the following essential criteria:

• Previous experience of working with young people of school age who may present with challenging behaviour and complex needs, preferably within an educational setting
• A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management
• The physical and emotional resilience to support students with complex needs, taking a non-judgemental approach
• The ability to support teaching and learning within an SEN setting to a dedicated group of students
• The ability to support the class teacher to monitor student progress, ensuring their improved engagement with the school and their learning
• The ability to record student progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholdersThe ability to model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of students.
• The ability to work in partnership with classroom teachers to differentiate appropriate interventions for students in relation to the curriculum
• The ability to work as part of a team using own initiative when needed
• Willingness to participate in own professional development

This post will be based initially at Samuel Laycock School in Ashton Under Lyne, however, all staff are employed by the MAT and are expected to work at any site within the New Bridge Group if required.
