Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment is recruiting for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive special school in Sutton. The role involves providing 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within a well-resourced SEND environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience with SEND, strong behaviour management, and excellent communication skills to work with teachers and therapists. This is a full-time, long-term contract with PAYE pay rates.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, especially ASD.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Able to stay calm and patient in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Relevant TA/SEND/Childcare qualifications desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with ASD.
  • Support the pupil's learning, engagement, and participation throughout the school day.
  • Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil to encourage confidence and independence.
  • Manage challenging behaviours, including disengagement from learning and leaving the classroom.
  • Support the pupil during transitions between lessons and activities.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and learning styles.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other support staff to ensure consistent support.

Sutton, South London Start Date: Tuesday 1st September Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm, Term Time Only Pay: From £92.63 per day (PAYE) Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term Axcis Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive special school in Sutton.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Ideal Candidate
  • Has previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Has strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Is resilient, proactive, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Can build positive relationships and maintain clear professional boundaries.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Holds relevant Teaching Assistant, SEND, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or Education qualifications (desirable but not essential).
