Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment is seeking an experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a student in an Autism Provision at a secondary school in EN4, Barnet. The role targets ASD with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours; you will provide dedicated 1:1 support, help implement EHCP targets, and apply positive behaviour strategies throughout the day.

This is a term-time, full-time position starting September 2026, offering a supportive SEND leadership environment and opportunities to develop

1:1 Teaching Assistant – Autism Provision (SEMH & Challenging Behaviour) | EN4 | September Start Experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Autism & Behaviour Support Location: EN4, Barnet Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

An inclusive secondary school in EN4 is looking to appoint an experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a student within its Autism Provision who presents with ASD alongside SEMH needs and behaviours that challenge.

Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and EHCP targets.
  • Use positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.
  • Support emotional regulation and social communication.
  • Encourage participation in lessons and wider school life.
  • Liaise closely with teaching staff, the SENCO and external professionals.
  • Record progress and contribute to review meetings.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Significant experience supporting young people with ASD and SEMH.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Calm, resilient and consistent approach.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Team Teach or equivalent behaviour management training is desirable.
