Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment are partnered with a secondary Alternative Provision school on the outskirts of Bedford who are looking for an experienced and resilient teaching assistant to join their team! The SEMH TA role in Bedford is for a primary Alternative Provision setting, with immediate start and a long-term contract until the end of July, with potential extension into the new academic year.

You must have SEN or SEMH experience and be able to support students 1:1 and in small groups.

Qualifications

• Experience working with SEMH/SEN in a UK school.
• Ability to support students academically and emotionally.
• DBS check on Update Service is required.

Responsibilities

• Support whole class and 1:1 in small groups (2-4).
• Assist with inclusive activities and enrichment projects.
• Adapt teaching to varied needs of SEMH/SEN pupils.

This alternative provision caters to primary ages pupils, normally KS2, allowing them to learn in smaller groups in a more supportive and holistic environment. Their facilities include a kitchen, classrooms, a recreation and contemplation area for students, a music room, and a one‑on‑one room where students can discuss any concerns they are having with teachers.

Class sizes are capped at 6 and the role of TA here will be to support the whole class as well as to support pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups of 2-4. The curriculum also includes a range of unaccredited programs that students can participate in during the year, such as enrichment projects.

Having experience working in a primary/secondary/sen school in the UK is essential

SEN experience is essential

The ability to support secondary aged students both academically and emotionally

Able to work with students with different needs and adapt to their learning

Available full time - Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm
