Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment Ltd is seeking Teaching Assistants to provide 1:1 SEN support across Kirklees primary schools. You will work closely with pupils who have ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or speech and language needs to help them stay engaged and safe in class.

The role requires patience, calmness under pressure, and the ability to follow personalised support plans with teachers and the SENCO. Experience in SEN or behaviour support is desirable, and an Enhanced DBS is part of the application

Teaching Assistants - 1:1 SEN Support (Kirklees Primary Schools)

Primary schools across Kirklees are looking for confident, committed Teaching Assistants to provide 1:1 SEN support for pupils with additional needs. These roles involve working closely with children who may display challenging behaviour, require emotional regulation support, or need adapted learning to help them succeed in the classroom.

You'll be supporting pupils with a range of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and speech & language difficulties. The right person will be calm, patient and able to build strong, trusting relationships with children who need consistency and clear boundaries.

Schools are looking for Teaching Assistants who can stay positive under pressure, follow behaviour plans confidently, and work closely with teachers and the SENCO to keep pupils engaged and safe. Experience in SEN, behaviour support or similar settings is highly desirable.

Key Duties

• Provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech & language).
• Manage challenging behaviour using school behaviour plans, de‑escalation strategies and positive reinforcement.
• Support emotional regulation and help pupils stay calm, focused and engaged.
• Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs and learning styles.
• Assist with classroom routines including transitions, group work and independent tasks.
• Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to follow personalised support plans.
• Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils build confidence and independence.
• Support social and communication skills through modelling, prompts and structured activities.
• Maintain clear records of progress, behaviour and daily support.
• Create a safe, nurturing environment where pupils feel supported and understood.
