New Directions Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with SEN and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in primary schools across the Harrogate area.

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide dedicated support to a pupil with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and confidence.
• Support the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional development.
• Implement strategies to manage behaviour and promote positive outcomes.
• Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to support individual learning plans.
• Adapt activities and resources to meet the needs of the learner.
• Encourage independence and participation within the classroom environment.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience in a school, educational, youth work, care, or support setting.
• A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
