Job summary

St. George's C of E Infant & Nursery School is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our school team.

You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing and development, helping to create a positive, inclusive and engaging school environment. Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small-group settings.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning
  • Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
  • Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
  • Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
  • You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required

Job description

Salary:NJC Grade C: £25,989 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro‑ra ta to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Please note that the pro‑ra ta salary for this role is between £19,249 (C6) and £19,555 (C7) gross per annum (subject to change depending on agreed working pattern on appointment)

Working Pattern: This is a fixed term position working 32 hours per week, 39 weeks per year until 31st August 2027 (Monday to Friday)

About the Role

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
  • Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
  • Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
  • You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.
What We’re Looking For
Essential qualities include:
  • Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning
  • Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults
Desirable (but not essential):
  • Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum
  • Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy
  • NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
