Job summary

St. Margaret's C of E Junior School are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our school team. You will play a key role in supporting pupils' learning, wellbeing and development, helping to create a positive, inclusive and engaging school environment.

Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small-group settings. Your key responsibilities will include supporting pupils' welfare and personal care,

Qualifications

  • Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and strategies to remove barriers to learning.
  • Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Desirable: experience with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils' welfare and personal care, including those with SEND.
  • Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions.
  • Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence.
  • Supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompanying pupils on trips.

Job description

Salary:NJC Grade C: £25,989 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Please note that the pro‑rata salary for this role is between £19,549 (C6) and £19,861 (C7) gross per annum (subject to change depending on agreed working pattern on appointment)

Working Pattern:This is a fixed term positionworking 32.5 hours per week, 39weeks per year until 31st August 2027 (Monday to Friday)

Essential qualities include:

Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age

Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning

Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Ability to relate well to both children and adults

Desirable (but not essential):

Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum

Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy

NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
