Job summary

St. David's C of E Primary School in Exeter is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a permanent, part-time role (12.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year).

The post is paid pro-rata to reflect hours; NJC Grade E full-time equivalent £30,518–£33,699, pro-rata between £8,829 and £9,749 gross annually. Interview pattern to be discussed at interview; enhanced DBS required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children across key stages.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor delivering whole-class activities.
  • English and Maths qualifications at GCSE level (minimum).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

  • Support teachers by helping create an engaging learning environment and preparing resources.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupils’ progress, providing detailed feedback and evidence.

  • Contribute to out-of-school learning activities as required.

Overview

St. David's C of E Primary School are seeking a dedicated and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team. This is a permanent position working 12.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. Working pattern to be discussed at interview.

Salary: NJC Grade E: £30,518 - £33,699 FTE (paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked). The pro-rata salary for this role is between £8,829 (E16) and £9,749 (E22) gross per annum (subject to change depending on agreed working pattern on appointment).

Role and Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver learning activities to individuals, groups and whole classes.
  • Support teachers by helping create an engaging learning environment and preparing resources.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupils’ progress, providing detailed feedback and evidence.
  • Lead small-group interventions and support delivery of literacy, numeracy and other curriculum strategies.
  • Contribute to out-of-school learning activities as required.
What We’re Looking For

Essential qualities include:

  • Experience working with children across key stages.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor delivering whole-class activities.
  • English and Maths qualifications at minimum GCSE level.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Previous HLTA experience.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices.
