Job summary

Sedgemoor Manor School is recruiting Teaching Assistants to join our Education team. You will support learning across all key stages, work alongside the class teacher, and help pupils engage and learn by building trusted relationships and applying appropriate strategies from pupil education plans.

Experience as a Teaching Assistant or carer is beneficial, with training provided. The school serves pupils aged 7–19 with autism and related needs, offering a supportive environment with opportunities

  • Ability to engage pupils with autism and complex needs is advantageous.

Job description

Sedgemoor Manor School are recruiting for a Teaching Assistants to join our Education team! We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed people, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support learning across all key stages. The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher, assisting the pupils and young people with their work and supporting with pupil engagement and learning through establishing good relationships, becoming a trusted adult and implementing applicable strategies of the pupil education and health care plan. Sedgemoor Manor School is very different to most schools, set in a calm idyllic site with several buildings for our small teaching groups (maximum 6 pupils) to engage and learn. We are almost at capacity with 100 places for pupils in year 3 through to sixth form. Pupils at Sedgemoor are autistic and are being supported in working towards overcoming various challenges. The staff, curriculum, site and experiences here enable them to thrive and achieve excellent accreditation. Many pupils go onto college and university.

Sedgemoor Manor is a specialist day school for young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum/SPLD and are aged between 7 and 19 years. Our tailored approach means we can support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a 'cycle of failure' and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a 'culture of success'. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.

About you
  • You will be a key member of our education support team, working as part of a specialist team of Teachers and Therapists to deliver personalised curriculum packages that motivate and inspire our students.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or carer would be beneficial, but as long as you have the communication skills and passion required for this role and a willingness to learn, we will give you all the training and development you need to succeed.
  • Whilst not essential, experience of supporting children with SLD and complex needs would be an advantage.
  • Successful candidates will contribute to the effective implementation of individual programmes by supporting the teaching and learning, social and independence activities and experiences, which enhance the learning and development of children and young people.
  • Being emotionally available and resilient is an important characteristic for this role.
