Job summary

Luma Education Recruitment is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Andover, Hampshire, supporting children with a range of additional needs.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, work closely with teachers, and help pupils engage positively in their education within a structured, nurturing environment. Enhanced DBS is required prior to starting; experience with SEN, SEMH, ASD or ADHD is valued and full training may be provided.

Teaching Assistant - SEN Specialist School

Location: Andover, Hampshire (Rural setting)
Pay: £100 £125 per day, depending on experience
Contract: Full-time Long-term Temp-to-Perm
Start Date: 9 September 2026 onwards

Teaching Assistant SEN Andover, Hampshire

Luma Education Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Andover, Hampshire area, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker or Youth Worker who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them reach their potential.

You will work closely with teachers and the wider support team, providing 1:1 and small-group support and helping pupils engage positively with their education in a structured, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
  • Support children and young people with SEN, SEMH, ASD and ADHD
  • Assist teachers with delivering engaging and accessible lessons
  • Help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally
  • Support positive behaviour and implement individual behaviour strategies
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Encourage independence, confidence and resilience
  • Help maintain a calm, safe and supportive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other education professionals

Experience with PRICE, TeamTeach or other positive behaviour support approaches would be desirable, although full training may be available depending on the setting and candidate experience.

About You

The successful Teaching Assistant will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD or behavioural needs
  • A patient, calm and resilient approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils
  • Confidence supporting challenging or distressed behaviour
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to different learning environments
  • A positive attitude and genuine commitment to helping pupils succeed
  • Experience within a school, SEN setting, youth service, care environment or similar setting

An Enhanced DBS is required prior to starting. Candidates registered on the DBS Update Service are welcome to apply.
