Job summary

Teaching Personnel in NN14 area is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs across several sites. You will work 1:1 and in small groups, assisting teachers with classroom activities and behaviour strategies.

The ideal candidate has SEMH experience, a calm, patient approach, and strong communication skills. Driving licence is desirable as travel between NN1 schools may be required.

Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: NN14 Area, Thrapston
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract Type: Full-time / Term-time (flexible depending on candidate)
About the Role:

We are looking for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across multiple educational sites in the NN1 area. This is a rewarding role for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people who require additional support to engage in education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs both 1:1 and in small groups

  • Help students regulate behaviour and engage positively in learning

  • Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils to encourage progress

  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and behaviour management strategies

  • Travel between different school locations within the NN1 area as required

  • Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs (school or alternative provision preferred)

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • The ability to remain consistent and professional in challenging situations

  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car (desirable)

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people

Desirable
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker, or Behaviour Mentor

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, or Youth Work
