What You'll be doing

Are you passionate about inspiring learners and helping people achieve their goals? We're looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher Practitioner / Learning Coach to join our teaching team and make a real difference in the community.

You'll deliver engaging classes, workshops and personalised support across Adult Skills, Apprenticeships and Tailored Learning Programmes. You'll work with learners from a range of backgrounds, helping them build their skills, confidence and knowledge while supporting their progress and development.

If you enjoy working with people, creating positive learning experiences and helping others reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.

What we're looking for

We're looking for a committed and professional Teacher Practitioner / Learning Coach who can bring empathy, understanding and strong communication skills to support adult learners. You'll help create an inclusive and engaging learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to build their confidence and achieve their goals.

You'll be confident using Information Learning Technology (ILT) to support teaching and learning, with an understanding of quality assurance, the learner journey, and equality, diversity and inclusion. Experience or knowledge of ESOL and Functional Skills, including embedding English, maths and digital skills into learning, would be highly valued. A strong commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing is also essential.

You'll hold, or be working towards, a minimum Level 4 teaching qualification and a Level 3 or higher qualification in your specialist area, alongside a Level 2 qualification in English and maths (or be willing to achieve this). You'll also need to be flexible to work across different sites within the Borough, including some evenings and occasional weekends.

About us

Our ambitious Luton 2040 Vision - that no-one in Luton will have to live in poverty - is at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that our people are remarkable, talented, committed and passionate about serving our residents.

The people of Luton depend heavily on this council - and that means our workforce! Are you ready to realise the remarkable and help us deliver our vision?

Application Process

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person's criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post.

Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.

Applicants for this public-facing post will need to demonstrate the ability to converse, and provide effective help or advice, fluently in spoken English.

On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
